Cyprus strongly condemns terrorism in all forms at UN General Assembly
Cyprus has unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations during a discussion by the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly on measures to eliminate international terrorism. The Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN, Ambassador Maria Michail, aligned with the European Union's statement while emphasizing Cyprus' zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.
Ambassador Michail highlighted serious concerns about the persistence of terrorist organizations in conflict zones and vulnerable areas, stressing that terrorism remains a major threat to international peace and stability. She called for a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustained international response grounded in the UN Charter and international law.
Cyprus also stressed the importance of strengthening the international legal framework against terrorism, supporting the adoption of a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. The country called for enhanced measures to cut off terrorist financing, dismantle safe havens, and ensure perpetrators face justice. Emphasis was placed on addressing the exploitation of emerging technologies by terrorists through enhanced global cooperation.
