Cyprus and India plan cultural cooperation ahead of 65th diplomatic anniversary

Cyprus and India are advancing plans to enhance cultural cooperation through joint events, artistic exchanges, and stronger institutional partnerships as they approach the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. This was discussed during a meeting between India’s High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish Manish, and Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Culture, Clea Hadjistephanou Papaellina. The talks focused on implementing the cultural cooperation agreement signed earlier this year during President Nikos Christodoulides’ state visit to India.

The agreement, valid from 2026 to 2030, includes collaboration in visual and performing arts, education, heritage conservation, and creative industries. The two sides also explored cooperation between museums, universities, and cultural organisations through exhibitions and educational initiatives. The meeting also addressed ideas for cultural activities to mark the 65th anniversary, highlighting the significant role of the Indian community in Cyprus and initiatives like Namaste Cyprus in fostering cultural ties.

These efforts follow Cyprus and India’s decision in May to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership encompassing trade, technology, education, and culture, reflecting a broad commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
