Three Paphos municipalities awarded Green City titles at Cyprus Environmental Awards 2025

Three municipalities in the Paphos region—Paphos, Ierokipia, and Polis Chrysochous—have been honoured with Green City of Cyprus titles at the 2025 Cyprus Environmental Awards for their commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. The Municipality of Paphos was recognised for expanding green spaces and its urban green space borehole irrigation network, winning in the Water Resources Management category. Ierokipia also received awards in Water Resources Management for using recycled sewage water to sustain coastal greenery and in Green Areas and Urban Biodiversity for enhancing urban greenery.

Polis Chrysochous was praised for promoting environmental awareness, education, and ecotourism, with initiatives linking environment and culture through specialised museums focused on reptiles, amphibians and marine life. The Paphos regional tourism board highlighted that these achievements strengthen the district’s position as a high-quality, sustainable tourist destination and called for continued investment in green infrastructure and resource management to support sustainable tourism.
