Cyprus advances global research innovation dialogue at Japan’s 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum

The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) of Cyprus participated in the 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum held in Japan from October 4-6, 2026. RIF’s Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides and Director General Theodoros Loukaidis engaged in key discussions on the future of research funding and innovation in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).

The Cyprus delegation joined a round-table with international research funding leaders to explore AI’s impact on research proposal evaluation, safeguarding diversity, and securing research outcomes. Meetings with senior figures from Europe and Asia, including the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and funding organisations from Spain, Canada, Austria, Thailand, and the Philippines, focused on enhancing talent mobility and startup development.

Additional forum sessions addressed regenerative medicine, AI support for people with disabilities, and featured presentations from Nobel laureates and global science policy leaders. RIF emphasized that participation strengthened Cyprus’s ties within the international research community, fostering knowledge exchange on adapting funding systems amidst rapid technological change.
