HIO to implement new identity verification for Gesy service centre calls
The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) will introduce a new identity verification procedure starting Wednesday for calls to the Gesy service centre. This measure aims to strengthen the protection of beneficiaries’ personal data by requiring callers requesting personal information to verify their identity through a one-time password (OTP) sent to their registered mobile number.
The OTP will be valid for five minutes and must be entered via the telephone system. After successful verification, an officer will conduct an additional identity check by asking for details such as the caller’s identity card number and date of birth. Personal information will only be disclosed once the full identification process is completed.
General enquiries that do not involve personal data will continue to be handled without the new verification step. The HIO encourages beneficiaries to ensure their contact details, especially mobile numbers, are current in the Gesy system. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve services and enhance data protection measures. Gesy services can be reached at 22017000.
