Cyprus and Greece sign memorandum to boost educational cooperation and strengthen historical memory
A bilateral memorandum was signed at the Holy Archdiocese in Nicosia to enhance educational cooperation between Cyprus and Greece. The agreement, signed by Education Ministers Athena Michaelidou and Sofia Zacharaki alongside church leaders, commits to joint activities such as teacher training, school competitions, educational visits, and digital infrastructure development.
Education Minister Michaelidou described the memorandum as a strategic plan for preserving historical self-awareness and cultural heritage, emphasizing the church’s crucial role in safeguarding Greek language and education. The initiative also celebrates Cyprus’ national day in Greek schools, further integrating Cypriot history into the Greek curriculum.
Greek minister Zacharaki highlighted Greece's unwavering support for the Republic of Cyprus and a just solution to the ongoing occupation, while church officials underscored the importance of cooperation to maintain historical memory and cultural identity across Greece, Cyprus, and the Greek diaspora.
