Leventis Museum and Alpha Bank to unveil 'Messages in Metal' numismatic exhibition in Nicosia
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and Alpha Bank will open an exhibition titled "Messages in Metal. A Timeless Dialogue with Cyprus" on October 15, 2026. The exhibition, which runs until January 10, 2027, features 136 coins from both institutions' collections, including 110 coins from Alpha Bank’s Numismatic Collection, one of the world’s largest private collections.
This exhibition marks the first time Cyprus hosts such a significant display of coins, illustrating Cyprus’ historical role in the political, economic, and cultural spheres of the Eastern Mediterranean. The show is organized into three themes: Transactions, Narrative, and Symbolism, highlighting the coins' roles beyond commerce as conveyors of history and cultural identity.
Accompanied by a bilingual publication and various educational events, this collaboration emphasizes Cyprus’ rich numismatic heritage and aims to engage diverse audiences. The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the Leventis Municipal Museum, providing a unique insight into Cyprus’ past through the lens of its coinage.
