George Pamboridis joins DISY race for 2028 presidential nomination

Former health minister George Pamboridis announced on Monday his bid for the Democratic Rally (DISY) nomination in the 2028 presidential election, increasing competition within the party. His entry adds a third major candidate alongside DISY leader Annita Demetriou and former party leader Averof Neofytou, who recently declared his candidacy but has yet to confirm whether he will run through DISY or independently.

The party has set October 26 as the deadline for nominations and will hold an internal vote on November 28 to select their candidate. Pamboridis emphasized the need for unity within DISY, citing introspection and division, and believes his candidacy can unite party grassroots while appealing to voters from other backgrounds who support his vision for a modern European Cyprus.

Announcing his decision after consultations with veteran party figures, Pamboridis stated on social media his commitment to serve with dignity and invited supporters to back his campaign.
