Farmers urge government to provide targeted support amid rising fertiliser and plant-protection product costs

The Panagrotikos farmers’ association has called on the Cypriot government to introduce targeted financial support to help farmers cope with the rising costs of fertilisers and plant-protection products. The association's secretary-general, Anastasis Yiapanis, emphasized the need for a dedicated support scheme tailored to the unique conditions facing Cyprus agriculture.

Yiapanis highlighted that increasing production costs are threatening the viability of agricultural businesses and producers’ incomes. Cyprus faces additional challenges due to its reliance on imports for these essential inputs, resulting in higher transport and supply costs that burden farmers.

The association urged the government to implement concrete measures, citing the importance of supporting farmers for food security, rural communities, and the broader economy. Yiapanis stressed that farmers seek fair conditions to remain economically viable, not preferential treatment.
