Cyprus Anti-Drugs Unit Links Largest Ever Ketamine Seizures to Organized Trafficking Ring

Cyprus’s Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) has uncovered strong links between two major ketamine seizures in Limassol last month, with one haul being the largest ever recorded on the island. Authorities suspect involvement of an organized group trafficking ketamine from Germany through Cyprus to Israel, potentially to manufacture "pink cocaine" for the Israeli market.

The initial seizure on September 12 yielded approximately 127 kg of ketamine along with other drugs, while a further 260 kg was discovered days later in a Limassol warehouse. Arrests include Israelis and Palestinians, with trials scheduled for early December. Another seizure on September 29 recovered 27.5 kg of ketamine and additional narcotics from a Limassol flat.

Ketamine use is rising in Europe, raising law enforcement concerns, as highlighted by recent European Union wastewater analyses. With ketamine classified as a Class B depressant and linked to substance abuse issues in Israel, these Cyprus seizures possess international significance for drug trafficking and consumption trends.
