Cyprus and India plan Mumbai maritime business forum and enhanced shipping cooperation
Cyprus and India are advancing their maritime cooperation with a planned business forum in Mumbai this November. Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis is expected to lead a maritime business delegation to India to further institutional and commercial ties in shipping. The announcement follows a joint maritime engagement held in Cyprus from September 28 to October 1, including the first India–Cyprus Joint Maritime Committee meeting under the 2017 bilateral Agreement on Merchant Shipping.
During the meeting, delegates discussed key areas such as maritime education, investment, policy exchange, and collaboration within the International Maritime Organisation on shared interests. Both sides explored opportunities in maritime services, shipping finance, ship repair, seafarer welfare, and green shipping initiatives.
Beyond governmental talks, the Indian delegation engaged with Cyprus maritime bodies, including the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Cyprus Ports Authority, and Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, while visiting the Port of Limassol. Preparations for Hadjimanolis’ visit to India and the upcoming Mumbai forum aim to deepen business partnerships and investment prospects, part of the broader India–Cyprus Joint Action Plan enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
