Cypriot Gothic Film MOTHERWITCH Premieres in Cyprus After Global Festival Run
The gothic film MOTHERWITCH, directed by Emmy Award winner Minos Papas and produced by Caretta Films, will premiere in Cyprus on 28 October, with daily screenings following from 29 October at cinemas in Nicosia and Limassol. Filmed entirely in Cyprus, the film is inspired by Cypriot tradition, folklore, and history, and is set in 1882, telling the story of a painter who attempts to bring her deceased children back to life but inadvertently unleashes dark forces upon her village.
MOTHERWITCH has screened at over 20 international film festivals, including its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, as well as festivals in Montreal, Mexico, Romania, Malta, South Korea, Ireland, Brazil, Poland, Germany, and more. The film received an Honorable Mention in the Genre category at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico.
Ahead of its theatrical release, MOTHERWITCH will feature at Cyprus Comic Con from 2 to 4 October, offering fans a chance to explore sets, costumes, and meet the cast and crew. The film is a collaboration between Cypriot, New York, and North Macedonian production teams, supported by cultural and governmental film incentives.
