Cyprus retail sales volumes rise 7% in August amid strong consumer growth

Retail sales volumes in Cyprus increased by 7.0 percent year-on-year in August 2026, signaling robust consumer activity according to the latest data from the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). The Turnover Value Index rose by 9.3 percent compared to August 2025, while the volume index, which excludes price effects, also climbed 7.0 percent.

Non-food goods led the growth, with sales volumes up 11.2 percent in August and 9.8 percent for January to August. Particularly notable were information and communication equipment sales, which surged by nearly 25 percent in August. Clothing, footwear, and household equipment also posted strong gains.

Food sales saw moderate growth, with supermarket volumes up 5.1 percent, although specialised food and tobacco stores experienced a slight decline. Automotive fuel volumes decreased by 1.5 percent despite a rise in fuel sales value due to higher prices. Excluding fuel, retail volumes increased by 7.8 percent in August. Sales outside physical stores weakened slightly but remained higher year-to-date.
