Bank of Cyprus advances towards AI-driven conversational and lifestyle banking by 2030
Demetris Nicolaou, Director of the Digital Transformation Division at Bank of Cyprus, outlined the bank's vision to transition from digital banking to AI-powered conversational banking by 2030. This shift aims to enhance customer service by enabling natural language interactions, personalized support, and agent-to-agent coordination on the bank's platform. A strategic partnership with Avenga and Microsoft is developing these AI capabilities using Microsoft Azure services.
The bank has already digitized most everyday banking services, with over 522,000 active digital users and 263,000 using QuickPay for millions in monthly transactions. The next phase involves integrating AI to proactively anticipate customer needs and deliver smarter, more personalized experiences beyond banking apps or branches, extending into lifestyle banking applications.
Nicolaou emphasized that AI will be employed responsibly within strict data security frameworks to improve relevance and efficiency while keeping human service integral. Additionally, collaboration with fintech firms enhances innovation, combining the agility of fintech with the bank's infrastructure and customer trust to shape the future financial ecosystem.
