Wizz Air launches Larnaca-Madrid route to boost Cyprus-Spain connectivity
Low-cost airline Wizz Air inaugurated its new Larnaca-Madrid route in September, expanding its Cyprus network to enhance year-round travel between the two countries. Operating three times a week, the service offers affordable direct access to Spain's capital for Cypriots while making Cyprus more accessible to Spanish travelers.
Network director Andras Szabo highlighted that the new route builds on Wizz Air’s existing Larnaca-Barcelona service and supports the airline’s strategy to strengthen Cyprus’ connections with European destinations. The route aims not only to promote tourism but also to improve business travel, family visits, and trade links.
Szabo emphasized that route decisions are driven by passenger demand and cost-efficiency, with a focus on maintaining low fares through partnerships with airports and a modern fleet. Apart from Madrid, Wizz Air is also increasing frequencies on routes such as Larnaca-Athens and Larnaca-Barcelona, reflecting its commitment to Cyprus as a key market in the Mediterranean.
