High-profile 'Sandy' case goes to Nicosia court with 101 charges against defendants
The notorious “Sandy” case will be heard on Wednesday at the Nicosia district court where Makarios Drousiotis and Kyriaki Kyriakou are due to appear. The hearing will focus on sending the case directly to the Nicosia criminal court for trial. Authorities have filed 101 charges against the pair, including forgery, circulating forged documents, publishing false news, and harassment.
The case arose after Drousiotis, a former parliamentary candidate, made serious allegations of corruption, blackmail, and abuse involving public figures and a purported Rosicrucian Brotherhood. Subsequent investigations by Europol and an FBI technical unit found no supporting evidence and revealed the incriminating messages were fabricated.
Forensic analysis identified irregular timestamps and the use of an app to create falsified conversations, with Kyriakou admitting to fabricating the messages. The Legal Service, led by Attorney-General George Savvides, initiated criminal proceedings after reviewing police findings. Wednesday's appearance marks the first judicial step following the completion of the investigation and formal charges.
