Parents are urged to seek medical advice if symptoms worsen, if lesions appear near the eyes, or if children develop fever or fatigue. Children with active, weeping lesions should remain home until at least 12 to 48 hours after starting treatment.
Alongside skin infections, the usual seasonal rise in respiratory viruses, gastroenteritis, and other infections is expected. Preventive measures include frequent handwashing, covering coughs, cleaning wounds, and ensuring vaccinations are up to date. Flu and RSV vaccinations are set to begin soon, with pediatricians encouraging all children over six months to receive the flu vaccine.
