Cyprus Hourly Labour Costs Rise 3.8% Year-on-Year in Q2 2026
Employers in Cyprus experienced a 3.8% increase in hourly labour costs in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to provisional data from the Statistical Service (Cystat). This rise was driven by a 3.9% growth in wages and salaries per hour worked and a 3.6% increase in non-wage costs, both of which accelerated from the first quarter.
The total labour cost index reached 121.87 in Q2 2026, up from 119.43 in the previous quarter and 117.38 a year earlier, using 2020 as the base year. Seasonally adjusted data showed a 1% quarterly increase in total labour costs, wages and salaries, while non-wage costs rose by 0.9% compared to the previous quarter.
These figures indicate a continuing upward trend in labour expenses for Cypriot employers, with the second quarter's growth outpacing that of the same period in 2025, reflecting a tightening labour market and rising employment-related expenses.
