Testimony Reveals Disturbing Signs Before Stylianos Constantinou’s 2019 Suicide
A special education teacher testified in Nicosia district court that Stylianos Constantinou, who took his own life in 2019 at age 14, had expressed intentions to harm his father from a young age. The teacher recounted that Stylianos had made violent threats against his father, citing instances of distress and neglect during his early school years. Stylianos was described as frequently unkempt, distressed, and isolated by peers, with staff noting his challenging behavior and significant neglect concerns.
The witness also highlighted the child’s difficult home environment, including exposure to animal slaughter on the family farm, and described the mother as visibly tired and sad. Meetings with Stylianos’ father reportedly left staff members fearful, with the father initially agreeing then withdrawing from plans to relocate the family. Early signs of neglect and injury were raised with authorities as far back as 2011.
The testimony is part of an ongoing court case investigating the potential responsibility of family members and state services in connection with Stylianos’ death. Cross-examination of the witness is scheduled for October 2.
