Cypriot Andri Nicolaou awarded British Empire Medal for 23 years combating child exploitation in UK
Andri Nicolaou, originally from Cyprus, has been honoured with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her extensive work in preventing and tackling the exploitation of minors in Britain. Having moved to Bristol in 2003, Nicolaou began her career working on child abuse investigations and over two decades transitioned into specialised roles focusing on exploitation, grooming, and prevention, particularly among vulnerable children.
Nicolaou’s unique approach, benefiting from her non-police status, enabled her to build trust with minors, working closely with children’s homes, schools, and emergency services. She delivers targeted talks to various groups, raising awareness about online dangers, sexual consent, and child safety, contributing substantially to safeguarding efforts across Britain.
Despite not holding British nationality, Nicolaou proudly represents the Cypriot community, particularly in Bristol, where she also leads safeguarding efforts in the Greek school. She continues to educate professionals and host conferences, with upcoming sessions open globally, solidifying her commitment to protecting children from exploitation.
