EKO launches €3 million programme to support Cyprus mountain communities over three years
EKO, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, has announced a comprehensive three-year initiative investing over €3 million to support mountain communities in Cyprus. The programme aims to enhance the quality of life and future prospects of residents, focusing on families, children, environmental protection, and cultural heritage in mountainous areas and the Tylliria region.
Key features include financial assistance for young families, providing up to €2,000 per newborn child, breakfast provisions to over 600 children in public nursery schools, and heating support for vulnerable groups. The initiative also supports education through the Outstanding Graduates Awards, recognising 150 secondary school students for academic excellence, and funds the “Journeys Through Memory” documentary series to preserve local cultural heritage.
In addition, EKO is enhancing forest protection by donating five water tanker vehicles to the Department of Forests. The programme, unveiled at an event in Troodos with President Nikos Christodoulides and other officials, is expected to benefit more than 7,000 people, demonstrating EKO’s commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility in Cyprus’s mountain communities.
