Cyprus has successfully managed the recent tourism crisis, with the overall decline in tourist arrivals for the first seven months of 2026 falling to 8%, signaling an easing downturn, according to Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis. The year is projected to close with a reduced decline of around 5%, reflecting gradual recovery.
Koumis emphasized that this success was achieved through excellent cooperation between public and private sectors, which was crucial in navigating the challenges faced. He highlighted that thousands of cancellations and a freeze in bookings were continuously monitored, with timely actions implemented to address the evolving situation.
Speaking after a meeting with the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association, the Cyprus Association of Tourist Enterprises, and local authorities in Limassol, Koumis stressed the shared responsibility to maintain tourism's competitiveness. He noted that Cyprus handled the crisis more effectively than some other countries, thanks to proactive collaboration and coordinated efforts.
