Wildfire in Arsos, Limassol controlled after burning 3.5 hectares

A wildfire that broke out in the Arsos community of Limassol district was brought under control shortly after 6:30 pm, according to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis. The fire burned approximately 3.5 hectares, but critical structures including a winery and a holiday home were protected during firefighting efforts.

Fire crews, bulldozers, and aircraft from Limassol's rural stations were swiftly deployed to combat the blaze, supported by the Department of Forests, the Game and Fauna Service, and organized volunteer groups. The operation included six fire engines and a large water tanker coordinated by the Regional Forest Officer for Troodos.

Notably, 21 Greek forest firefighters, part of the EU's pre-positioned firefighting programme and currently stationed in Cyprus until September 16, 2026, assisted at the scene. This was the first significant fire they responded to during their mission in Cyprus.
