Replica of Aphrodite of Lefkolla unveiled in Paralimni to reconnect with ancient heritage
A replica of the ancient Aphrodite of Lefkolla was officially welcomed to Paralimni, marking a significant cultural moment for the area. Deputy Minister of Culture Clea Papaellinas emphasized that while the original artifact remains in Berlin's Neues Museum, the replica symbolizes the return of knowledge, memory, and local identity to Paralimni.
The initiative arose from collaboration between Paralimni-Dherynia municipality, the Neues Museum, and Humboldt University, allowing residents to connect with an archaeological find from their region. The Aphrodite head, adorned with a turreted crown similar to symbols on ancient Salamis coins, highlights Paralimni’s historical significance within the kingdom of Salamis and the broader eastern Cyprus network.
Papaellinas noted that this event underscores Paralimni’s integral role in Cyprus's ancient history, revealing that the area was never isolated but part of a prominent political and religious landscape in antiquity.
