Comédie-Française Debuts in Cyprus with Annie Ernaux's 'L’Événement' at Nicosia Municipal Theatre
The legendary Comédie-Française is making its Cyprus debut with the play “L’Événement” (“The Event”), based on the autobiographical work by Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux. Performed and conceived by Françoise Gillard, the production explores a young woman’s struggle in 1963, highlighting ongoing societal debates about women's bodily autonomy. It is part of the Nicosia International Festival 2026 and runs for 65 minutes at the Municipal Theatre in Nicosia at 8 pm, with Greek and English surtitles.
In addition to this theatrical highlight, Cyprus hosts other cultural events including a sold-out concert by French singer ZAZ in Limassol, and a debut album performance by Christos Petrou at the University of Cyprus’s 29th Cultural Festival. Meanwhile, art exhibitions and cinema screenings continue across major cities, showcasing a vibrant artistic scene throughout the island.
