French Actress Fanny Ardant to Star in Cypriot Premiere of Spoken Opera Cassandre in Limassol

On October 2, the Rialto Theatre in Limassol will host the Cypriot premiere of Michael Jarrell’s spoken opera Cassandre, featuring renowned French actress Fanny Ardant and eighteen musicians from the Commandaria Orchestra. This French-language performance will include surtitles in Greek, English, and Russian, aiming to attract a diverse audience and enliven Cyprus’ arts scene.

Based on Christa Wolf’s novel, the opera tells the story of a woman who foresees catastrophe yet is doomed never to be believed. Ardant, a César Award-winning actress with a prolific film career, reprises her role after performing Cassandre in major European cities and returns to Cyprus after nine years. The production is presented by the Cyprus International Theatre Festival and directed by Hervé Loichemol.

Ahead of the opera, an Open Talk event with Ardant will take place on October 1 at the Crowne Plaza Limassol Hotel & Spa, featuring a vocal tribute to Maria Callas. This unique engagement promises an enriching cultural experience for arts enthusiasts in Cyprus.
