226 Dangerous Buildings Identified in Paphos District, 70 in Paphos Municipality
Authorities have identified 226 dilapidated or dangerous buildings throughout the Paphos district, with the most critical issues concentrated in Paphos Municipality, where 70 apartment buildings have been declared dangerous. Of these, 10 to 11 buildings are in a more serious condition, prompting immediate safety actions by the Paphos District Local Government Organisation (DLGO).
The DLGO has already taken action on the three most urgent cases by posting warnings to owners and tenants, advising that these buildings should not be used. Owners of some buildings have begun repairs, and the DLGO is currently reviewing submitted evidence to decide on next steps. They are also coordinating with Civil Defence to prepare for possible evacuations to prevent displacement of residents.
Following a recent tragedy in Limassol, the DLGO is on heightened alert and working closely with legal advisors and the licensing department to enforce legislation and prevent similar incidents.
