George Theocharides Reflects on Key Changes as CySEC Chairman Ahead of Leadership Transition
George Theocharides has formally ended his six-year tenure at the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) following the government’s appointment of new leadership. During his time, which included roles as vice-chairman and chairman, Theocharides highlighted three defining changes: the implementation of effective outcome-based supervision, significant enhancements to CySEC’s digital technologies, and establishing Cyprus as a credible, well-regulated financial services jurisdiction.
Theocharides expressed deep gratitude to CySEC staff, crediting them for much of the progress and evolution of the regulator into a strong and forward-thinking organization. His departure precedes the return of George Karatzias as chairman, alongside Loukas Lagoudis as vice-chairman, marking a new chapter for CySEC.
Reflecting on his experience, Theocharides praised his collaborations with European and international supervisory bodies, extending thanks to colleagues across various sectors. He conveyed confidence that the incoming leadership will build upon the accomplished foundation and continue to foster growth within Cyprus’s financial sector.
