Cyprus Adult Education Participation Rises to 12% in 2025, Below EU Average
The share of adults in Cyprus engaging in education and training increased to 12 per cent in 2025, up from 7.5 per cent in 2015, according to Eurostat data. This rise reflects a growing emphasis on lifelong learning in the country's labour market, though Cyprus' participation rate remains 1.7 percentage points below the EU average of 13.7 per cent.
Adult education plays a crucial role in helping workers update skills and adapt to economic and technological changes. Across the EU, participation in adult learning increased steadily over the past decade, despite a temporary decline in 2020 linked to the pandemic. The figures highlight the importance of continuous education for employment, entrepreneurship, and tackling the digital transformation within European economies.
Eurostat's data also reveals disparities in participation rates by gender and location, with women and urban residents more likely to engage in training. Comparatively, Cyprus shows substantial improvement in adult learning, though it still trails countries such as Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, which recorded participation rates above 28 per cent in 2025.
