Education level and occupation strongly influence earnings and career prospects in Cyprus
Recent data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus reveal a significant correlation between education level, occupational category, and earnings. In 2022, average annual earnings ranged from €16,642 for those with basic education to €55,598 for doctorate holders. Senior managers earned the highest average salary of €69,597, followed by professionals at €38,563, underscoring the financial advantages of higher education and specialization.
The Summer Economics and Entrepreneurship Workshop in Paphos highlighted these findings and emphasized the diverse roles within the accountancy profession, which goes beyond numbers to include compliance, strategy, and digital skills. The workshop also informed young people about essential employment rights such as minimum wage, mandatory social insurance registration, and protections against undeclared work.
Organized by the Cyprus Association of Economics Teachers and the Cyprus University of Technology, the workshop aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of economics, entrepreneurship, and labour market realities. It encourages pupils to consider factors beyond salary when choosing their field of study and career path, including job demand, work-life balance, and opportunities for advancement.
