Stitched into the Landscape exhibition showcases Lefkara lace art in Pedoulas
The new exhibition "Stitched into the Landscape," by artists Andreani Panayides and Vasilis Savvidis, opened on September 11 at the Elyssia Boutique Hotel in Pedoulas and will run until November 11. The immersive show celebrates the traditional Cypriot craft of Lefkara lace, combining hand-stitched lacework with graphic art depicting everyday village life. It aims to evoke the "siga siga" — or slow — rhythm of Cypriot living.
Supported by the Cultural Decentralisation Programme 2026 of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the exhibition also features free workshops teaching the Lefkara lace technique. Panayides and Savvidis blend tradition with modernity by integrating hand-drawn linen works with meticulous lace embroidery, inviting visitors to slow down and appreciate the craft’s delicate details.
The exhibition highlights Lefkara lace as an endangered UNESCO-listed art form, emphasizing its cultural significance and the need to preserve it. The free workshops will be held on September 12-13 and October 10-11, helping to pass this unique heritage to new generations in Cyprus.
