Man arrested after 25-acre fire spreads from garden in occupied Kythrea
A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after a fire he started in his garden spread uncontrollably, burning approximately 25 acres of land in occupied Kythrea. The blaze began around 11 a.m. when the man set fire to a pile of dry grass without taking necessary safety precautions.
The fire quickly spread from the garden into a nearby stream bed, damaging dry grass, scrubland, reeds, and olive trees. A large-scale response involving police, fire crews, military personnel, and local residents helped bring the blaze under control.
Authorities confirmed the fire is now extinguished, though cooling operations are ongoing to prevent the fire from reigniting in the affected area.
