Health Minister Highlights Crucial Role of Physiotherapy in Stroke and Cardiovascular Disease Management

Cyprus Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides emphasized the essential role of physiotherapy in preventing and managing chronic diseases, rehabilitating after stroke, and maintaining patient autonomy. Speaking at a scientific seminar in Limassol organized by the Cyprus Physiotherapists Association and Frederick University, he underscored the need for ongoing professional education to translate new scientific knowledge into clinical practice.

Charalambides highlighted that physiotherapy now extends beyond injury recovery to include chronic disease management, healthy aging, and functionality preservation. Particularly in cardiovascular diseases and stroke, physiotherapy interventions begin proactively through exercise promotion and therapeutic plans, while post-stroke rehabilitation focuses on mobility restoration and complication prevention through coordinated multidisciplinary efforts.

The minister also pointed to the increasing importance of physiotherapy amid an aging population and rising non-communicable diseases, urging that physiotherapists’ expertise be integrated into health policy design. He congratulated the organizers for fostering the connection between education, research, and patient care, stressing that investment in scientific knowledge ultimately benefits society through improved healthcare services.
