Nicosia Mayor Urges Greater Youth Participation in New Local Plan Consultations
Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos has called for increased public involvement, especially among young people, in consultations for the city’s new local plan. He emphasized that participation is vital for a healthy society, noting that previous public meetings have yielded valuable feedback from residents.
The consultations, held at central locations including Melina Merkouri hall and the municipal theatre in Ayios Dhometios, featured presentations and extensive public input sessions lasting over three hours. To facilitate broader engagement, the municipality offers digital tools such as a QR code, an online submission link, and the Ippodamos platform for comments.
Prountzos highlighted that Nicosia's technical team is currently preparing the municipality's proposal to present to the municipal council. However, he expressed concern over a tight deadline set by the interior ministry and town planning council for submissions by October 18, with a requested extension still pending. Despite this, the mayor reaffirmed the commitment to complete the process on time while ensuring transparency and thorough documentation.
