An 85-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car reversing near Archbishop Makarios Square in Nicosia on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:45 pm close to the Anthoupolis refugee camp. The elderly man sustained a cerebral hemorrhage and was immediately hospitalized at Nicosia General Hospital for treatment.
The car was driven by a 38-year-old man who tested negative for alcohol but positive in a preliminary drug test. The police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances of the accident. The condition of the elderly man remains critical, and authorities are working to determine all factors involved.
