Cyprus remains attractive to investors despite challenges in energy and bureaucracy
Cyprus continues to be a preferred destination for foreign direct investment, with 83% of investors viewing the island as attractive and 62% planning to expand operations in the next year, according to the EY Attractiveness Survey. President Nikos Christodoulides also announced a 10% rise in substantive foreign investment in Cyprus for 2025, highlighting the island's enduring appeal.
Investors praised Cyprus’s tax system, quality of life, political stability, EU membership, and professional services. However, concerns over high energy costs, bureaucracy, limited international connectivity, and geopolitical tensions present significant challenges. Energy costs, in particular, ranked high among investor concerns for the first time.
Looking ahead, investors emphasized the need for stronger technology infrastructure, specialized skills, and greater government support. Sustainability remains a priority for 68% of respondents, alongside improvements in banking procedures. Experts note that while geopolitical risks weigh on decisions, Cyprus's strategic location near key markets offers both risks and opportunities for future growth.
