Cyprus and Bahrain boost trade and maritime cooperation with new MoU and business initiatives
Cyprus and Bahrain are intensifying efforts to expand trade and investment ties, focusing on business and maritime cooperation. The recent visit to Manama by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) president Stavros Stavrou built on earlier high-level contacts this year, aiming to translate renewed political momentum into practical business engagement. Discussions centered on revitalizing historic trade relations and facilitating partnerships in various sectors.
A significant outcome of the visit was a new memorandum of understanding on maritime cooperation, covering key areas such as maritime safety, security, education, search and rescue, and innovation. Signed by Cyprus’ Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis and Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the MoU will be supported by joint working groups to implement actionable measures.
Both sides emphasized Cyprus’ role as a gateway for Gulf companies expanding into Europe, leveraging its EU membership and strategic location. Plans include sharing expertise through Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute projects, promoting marine conservation, artificial reefs, and maritime technology initiatives. With several potential agreements underway, both countries aim to move beyond formalities toward tangible cooperation and long-term partnerships.
