Cyprus approves five new tourism incentive schemes to boost off-season and rural visits
Cyprus' cabinet has approved five new tourism incentive schemes aimed at attracting visitors beyond the island’s popular resorts and busy summer months. The initiatives include a €1.5 million grant programme for businesses in Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias, focused on improving hotel and leisure facilities. This targeted investment, running from 2026 to 2028, seeks to support development in this remote border area.
Additional schemes include a €150,000 annual budget for a conference tourism programme and a €400,000 annual budget to attract foreign sports teams for training, both extending from 2026 to 2029. The government also approved funding for rural experiential workshops and Christmas villages, with budgets of €100,000 and €640,000 respectively, designed to promote authentic local traditions and support winter tourism in mountainous communities.
Tourism Deputy Minister Kostas Koumis emphasized that these measures form part of a broader strategy to reduce seasonality, develop specialist tourism, and distribute tourism activity more evenly across Cyprus’ countryside and border regions, enhancing the overall visitor experience throughout the year.
