Animal Party proposes sterilisation and management of prison cat population

The Animal Party has proposed a plan to sterilise approximately 60 cats residing at central prisons to control their population. The proposal calls for immediate implementation through cooperation between the state, veterinary services, and animal welfare organisations, with the state responsible for securing funding.

The comprehensive model includes registering and electronically identifying the cats, mapping colonies within the prison premises, and introducing controlled feeding practices instead of unregulated food distribution. Additional measures include regular veterinary checks, treatments, and an adoption programme to manage the animals responsibly.

The party envisions this plan as a blueprint for similar initiatives in other closed or controlled areas across the Republic, aiming for improved animal welfare and effective population control in institutional settings.
