Hannah Rowan’s Ceramic Sculptures Explore Motherhood and Ecology at The Edit Gallery in Limassol

The Edit Gallery in Limassol is hosting Carriers, a solo exhibition showcasing new ceramic sculptures by British artist Hannah Rowan. Developed during her time in Limassol, the works focus on the theme of carrying—encompassing protection, nourishment, and the body’s relationship with its environment. Rowan’s pieces, inspired by pregnancy and motherhood, blend human anatomy with natural forms, such as placentas merging with botanical elements and marine motifs, to emphasize care and interdependence across living beings.

The sculptures, fragile yet protective in appearance, evoke armor-like breastplates rendered in lustrous, shell-like glazes reminiscent of oysters. This material quality symbolizes the connection between body and environment, with surfaces bearing traces of their surroundings. Hannah Rowan’s multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, and performance, exploring intimacy and ecological systems. Carriers will be open from September 18 to October 17, 2026, at The Edit Gallery in Limassol with visiting hours Wednesday to Friday and Saturdays in the morning.
