In response, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping has spearheaded a comprehensive 22-point action plan, created with involved state agencies, to strengthen governance and accountability under strict timelines.
The plan includes increased water-quality sampling at sensitive beaches, enhanced pollution monitoring using unmanned aircraft, real-time sensor installations at key ports, and specialised incident-response programs. Measures for 2026 focus on tightening inspections, public awareness campaigns, and localized clean-ups, while medium-term steps set for 2027 involve new legislation, a coastguard service, and a digital platform to consolidate pollution data regionally.
In parallel, a 15-point targeted framework addresses recent pollution incidents, including efforts to map and surveil land-based pollution sources, regulate boat waste discharges, and improve inter-agency coordination.
