Annita Demetriou Leads DISY Members' Poll for 2028 Presidential Nomination
Annita Demetriou emerges as the frontrunner for the DISY party’s 2028 presidential nomination, securing 48% support among party members in a recent IMR poll. Her closest contender, Averof Neophytou, trails at 36%, while George Pamborides, the only official candidate so far, garners just 7%. Around 10% of respondents found none of the candidates suitable.
Demetriou also enjoys the strongest backing as the most electable candidate, with 64% of members expressing confidence in her ability to win the presidency and 58% citing her appeal beyond DISY’s traditional base. The survey highlights potential challenges for party unity, with 22% indicating they might not support the official nominee if their preferred candidate is not chosen.
Regarding election strategy, 58% favor DISY contesting independently, while 26% prefer backing current President Nikos Christodoulides. The Cyprus problem ranks as the most critical factor for candidate selection. The poll reflects internal dynamics that could influence both the nomination process and party cohesion ahead of the 2028 elections.
