Major Printmaking Exhibition 'COEXISTENCE: A. TASSOS – HAMBIS' Opens in Nicosia
A significant printmaking exhibition titled "COEXISTENCE: A. TASSOS – HAMBIS" opens on 23 September at the Municipal Hambis Printmaking Museum in Nicosia. This event showcases the works of two renowned Greek and Cypriot printmakers, A. Tassos and Hambis. Curated by Yiannis Bolis in collaboration with Athens' Society of Visual Arts A. Tassos, it highlights their artistic responses to the turbulent histories of Greece and Cyprus.
The exhibition explores themes of human dignity, freedom, and peace, reflecting the struggles faced during periods such as the Greek dictatorship, German Occupation, British colonial rule in Cyprus, and the 1974 Turkish invasion. Notably, A. Tassos’s artwork "Cyprus 1974," known as the “Refugee Stamp,” symbolizes the Cypriot experience.
Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos will inaugurate the event, which will run until 24 July 2027. A detailed 200-page illustrated catalogue is also in preparation, featuring essays by the curator and the Society’s president.
