Diko Party Confirms Support for President Christodoulides' 2028 Re-Election Campaign
Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides has reaffirmed that the Diko party will back President Nikos Christodoulides in the 2028 presidential election. This statement comes in opposition to comments by Diko leader Nicholas Papadopoulos, who suggested the party’s support is not yet assured. Charalambides emphasized that Christodoulides is already Diko’s president and highlighted the recent cabinet reshuffle, which increased Diko’s ministerial representation.
Charalambides underlined that the party’s backing is based not just on government participation but on a shared election program aimed at benefiting society. He praised the current administration’s successful foreign policy efforts, strong economic growth—the highest in the European Union—and a reduction in public debt. Additionally, the government has allocated €200 million for public hospital upgrades.
While acknowledging ongoing internal discussions within Diko, Charalambides ruled out any plans to leave the current government. He stated that the focus remains on cooperating with President Christodoulides to fulfill their commitments, with final decisions on electoral backing to be made closer to the election date, about 18 months away.
