Cyprus-based writer Erini Loucaides wins international 2026 Minds Shine Bright Places Writing Prize

Cyprus-based author Erini Loucaides has won the prestigious 2026 Minds Shine Bright Places Writing Prize for her short story "Relentlessly Prismatic." The narrative centers on Sara, a romantic immigrant Englishwoman grappling with love, migration, secrets, and unmet desires as she faces her final hours in a Cypriot hospice. Loucaides’ story was selected as the overall winner from hundreds of global entries, highlighting her ability to portray complex emotional and cultural experiences.

Loucaides, whose work often explores Cyprus’s post-1974 identity and diaspora themes, described the story as an intimate exploration of consciousness and memory in the face of death. Her deep connection to Cyprus, shaped by her family’s refugee background and decades living on the island, informs much of her character-driven fiction. "Relentlessly Prismatic" will feature in the upcoming 2026 anthology published by Minds Shine Bright.

With multiple international accolades to her name, Loucaides is preparing to publish a debut story collection and is working on future projects including a novel on Greek mythology in Cyprus and a tribute to Cypriot nurses during 1974. Her winning story demonstrates her growing reputation as a significant voice in contemporary Cypriot literature.
