Witnesses sought after fatal accident on Limassol-Paphos highway near Episkopi tunnel

British base police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on the Limassol-Paphos highway that claimed the life of 76-year-old Demetris Potamitis last Wednesday near the Episkopi tunnel. Potamitis had stopped his vehicle to retrieve a refrigerator that fell onto the road, when he was struck by a minibus traveling towards Paphos airport and pronounced dead at the scene. His grandson, who was travelling with him, was unharmed.

The driver of the minibus was arrested but tested negative for drugs and alcohol. He has since been released pending further investigations. Authorities are now appealing to the public for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that could aid in determining the exact circumstances of the accident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the British base police on 1443 or 25 967227 to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
