CySEC urges participation in EU AMLA hearing on new anti-money laundering risk assessment standards

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has called on regulated entities to participate in a public hearing hosted by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) on new EU rules for assessing money laundering and terrorist financing risks. The hearing, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026, will focus on draft Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) designed under the EU's Anti-Money Laundering Directive to standardize the risk assessment process for businesses in the non-financial sector.

The proposed methodology aims to help regulators identify both inherent and residual risks by factoring in existing internal controls, promoting a consistent, proportionate, and effective supervisory approach across the EU. Discussions will address the relevance and proportionality of required data, treatment of smaller businesses, and the practical implementation of reporting frameworks.

CySEC emphasizes this hearing as a valuable opportunity for firms to engage directly with AMLA, influence the final standards, and ensure the proposed requirements realistically reflect the size and complexity of their operations. Registration for the limited seats closes on the day of the hearing at 10 am CET, with participation restricted to registered entities.
