Cross-examination of key witness ends in suspended Paphos mayor rape trial

The cross-examination of a crucial prosecution witness concluded on Tuesday in the rape trial of suspended Paphos mayor Phedon Phedonos, marking the testimony of 15 individuals so far in the case. The witness was reportedly connected to the complainant's circle at the time of the alleged incidents. Following this, two additional prosecution witnesses testified during the same hearing.

Phedonos, who denies all five charges, faces accusations including two counts of indecent assault, rape, administering a substance to cause stupefaction with intent, and assault causing bodily harm. These charges date back to 2014, with the most serious offenses carrying potential life sentences upon conviction. The trial, conducted behind closed doors to protect the complainant, began on July 27 at the Paphos Criminal Court and is scheduled to resume on September 29 and October 6 with more prosecution witnesses expected to testify.
