Erdogan urges UN to recognize Turkish Cypriot sovereignty and end isolation
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the international community to acknowledge the sovereign equality and equal status of the Turkish Cypriot people during his address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He urged recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the establishment of political, diplomatic, and economic relations to end what he described as inhumane isolation.
Erdogan also addressed regional maritime disputes with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, expressing hope for resolution based on good neighborly relations and international law. He emphasized the need for an eastern Mediterranean conference to discuss regional issues.
The president highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, condemning Israel’s actions and labeling Gaza as "the most inhumane concentration camp of our time," citing extensive casualties and suffering. He also denounced settler violence in the West Bank and restrictions on access to holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing that these issues transcend politics and represent profound humanitarian concerns.
