Landowners in Akamas can apply for environmental preservation subsidies starting October 1
Landowners in the Akamas region will be able to apply for compensatory financial aid through 'Measure 1' from October 1 to November 15, as announced by the agriculture ministry. This scheme offers annual subsidies of up to €6,600 per beneficiary for 2024-2028 to those who forgo development on their plots, aiming to preserve the environment and biodiversity.
Eligible applicants include individuals and legal entities owning private land within designated urban and agricultural zones, covering a total of 93,460 decares. The subsidy is set at €600 per hectare, with a maximum limit of €6,600. Beneficiaries can continue agricultural activities but must refrain from altering or fencing unused plots to protect natural vegetation. Properties with illegal development are excluded from the program.

The ministry highlighted the ease of the application process and encouraged landowners to take advantage of the support.
